This prototype designed for two lots from a total sub-division of thirteen is intended to echo contemporary desert living. The traditional courtyard becomes the focus of planning and a natural extension of the indoor living areas. In a hot desert climatic setting, the pool and hot tub become the key elements of the courtyard. The living and family rooms are designed as pavilions with stretched roof overhangs to provide relief from the harsh summer sun. There is a minimal divide between these spaces and the courtyard. A series of folding/sliding doors when opened, eliminate this divide.
